Jury Returns a Verdict in Excess of $100,000 Where Insurance Company Offered Only $20,000
A Bridgeport jury returned a verdict in excess of $100,000 for a man who suffered injuries to his neck and back when his car was rear-ended on the highway during rush-hour traffic. The insurance company claimed that all of the plaintiff’s problems were pre-existing because he had been treated on and off for neck and back problems for at least 15 years before the crash. However, the plaintiff, his treating doctor and his family members all testified that the plaintiff’s neck and back problems got a lot worse after the crash. The insurance company was only willing to pay $20,000, but the jury felt much differently and awarded the plaintiff $115,000.

$210,000 Awarded to Man Injured by Limousine
A 59-year-old man was injured in a motor vehicle accident caused by a limousine. Our client was treated by a local orthopedic for whiplash-type injuries that caused persistent pain in his neck. He was released with a 5 percent disability of the neck. The pain affected his ability to work and to enjoy his favorite pastime, which was fishing. The insurance company offered our client approximately $25,000 to settle the case before trial. That offer was increased to $45,000 just before the jury came back with its verdict. The jury’s total award, including interest, was in the amount of $210,000.

Woman Referred to Tremont Sheldon P.C. by Her Lawyer and Receives Settlement of $280,000 After Almost Settling for $1,500
A woman was on the verge of settling her motor vehicle case directly with the insurance company for $1,500 when her family lawyer referred her to Tremont Sheldon P.C. for consultation. The woman received injuries to her neck and back in a minor rear-end crash and initially sought treatment with her chiropractor. Almost a year after the collision, however, her neck problems became much worse, requiring her to have an MRI, which showed a disk herniation. She underwent spinal surgery almost two years after the initial collision. Her neurosurgeon felt that her neck problems and the surgery were related to the trauma of the collision, and she ended up resolving her case for $280,000.
