We Provide Support If You Suffered Sexual Abuse During A Rideshare

Ridesharing is built on the idea that it is a safe form of travel for passengers. Drivers are supposed to be registered and vetted. Many women traveling alone are vulnerable and they depend on these services to get them home safely. Far too many of those rides are not safe with hundreds of women having reported being sexually abused by their driver. If you were sexually abused while using a ridesharing service in Connecticut, call Tremont Sheldon Robinson Mahoney P.C..

There are more than 20 million Uber and Lyft rides every day. As more people depend on ridesharing, there is an urgency to hire drivers. Some drivers have not had their fingerprints processed or criminal backgrounds checked adequately. There are even fraudulent drivers picking up unsuspecting passengers.

Ridesharing Companies Are Not Doing Enough To Prevent Sexual Abuse

A 2018 study reported that 103 Uber drivers were accused of raping or sexually abusing passengers. Thirty-one of the drivers were convicted of forcibly touching, false imprisonment or rape. Lyft also has sexual abuse and assault charges pending across the country. Both companies are accused of not doing enough to provide safe rides. Reports have also revealed that some of the drivers who were accused of sexual abuse were under the influence when the incidents happened. In addition, some drivers have reported that they have not received training as to sexual harassment policies. Uber and Lyft spokespeople say safety is a priority but their actions suggest otherwise.

There Are Things Happening In Ridesharing That Should Not Happen

There have been sexual abuse allegations over the years that were overlooked or not investigated. Incidents have included:

  • Kissing
  • Touching
  • Unwanted advances
  • Following/stalking a client after the ride
  • Not allowing passengers out of the car
