Plaintiff Awarded $1.2 Million In Verdict Against the Boys & Girls Village for failure to report sexual abuse

Our plaintiff was awarded $1.2 million by the Boys & Girls Village in Milford for negligence and failure to report sexual abuse against our client’s 15-year-old son. The jury delivered for two days before reaching the verdict that the Boys & Girls Village had breached their legal duty by failing to report to the state Department of Children and Families that the boy was being sexually abused by one of the teacher’s aides.

The victim received treatment at the Boys & Girls Village from 2014 to 2015. The victim’s mom told two individuals at the club that she believed her son and aide were having an inappropriate relationship. The staff discussed the mother’s complaints but did not report the concerns to the state Department of Children and Families.

“Because of the failure of Boys & Girls Village to report, the sexual abuse of this boy by his former teacher was allowed to continue for over a year,” said Cindy Robinson. “If Boys & Girls Village had reported the mother’s suspicions, this would have stopped.”

The aide is serving 18 months in prison after she pled guilty to second-degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a child.
