A former fencing coach at Fairfield's high schools has been sentenced to two years in prison after pleading guilty to sexually assaulting a female student at Fairfield Ludlowe High School last year. The parents of the victim broke into tears last Friday as they described to Judge Robert Devlin at Bridgeport Superior Court how their now-18-year-old daughter has changed as a result of actions by John Tejada. "I sent him a confident, happy child and he sent us back a broken child, and we may never put the pieces back together," said the girl's father, wiping away tears.
A Danbury man who has taught at a private Catholic girls' school in Greenwich for the past 17 years has been charged with sexual assaulting a minor, police said. Michael Maida, 44, surrendered to police on Tuesday. He is charged with second-degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a minor, according to police. The charges stem from an investigation into alleged contact between Maida and a student who was under the age of 16 at the time, police said. Maida teaches at Convent of the Sacred Heart day school in Greenwich. According to a statement from the school, the alleged incident took place in the fall of 2009 and the alleged victim is no longer a student.
A 72-year-old substitute teacher at Westhill High School in Stamford Connecticut was arrested Wednesday for allegedly masturbating in a school hallway, according to police. Michael Luecke was charged with public indecency, breach of peace and risk of injury to a minor. According to police, Luecke was discovered about 7:33 a.m. by a school paraprofessional, who walked by an out cove in the hallway and saw a man on the ground. Thinking the man was hurt, the woman approached him and saw that the man's hand was in his pants "manipulating his penis," police said.
More victims might come forward after a veteran Trumbull police officer was charged Tuesday with sexually assaulting a teenage girl he befriended at a statewide academy for high school students interested in becoming police officers. William Ruscoe, 45, a drill instructor at the Cadet Police Academy at the University of Hartford, flirted with a number of teenage girls at the weeklong camp held every year, State Police investigators said. One of the girls turned him in after she became jealous of his attentions to another girl, police said. State police said Ruscoe was charged with sexually assaulting one of the girls in his Trumbull home, binding her with his police handcuffs after pulling out his handgun.
GENEVA -- A sharply critical United Nations panel accused the Vatican on Wednesday of putting its reputation and interests above those of children who had been sexually abused by priests. It called on the Vatican to immediately remove all known or suspected molesters from their posts and report them to civil authorities.

A 30-year-old employee of a Bridgeport, Connecticut Boys and Girls Club is facing charges for allegedly "sexting" a 16-year-old girl. Jermaine Laidlaw is charged with risk of injury to a minor and using a computer to entice a minor into sexual activity, police said. Laidlaw was employed at the Jerome Orcutt Boys and Girls Club in Bridgeport, according to police. The victim's mother went to police after she discovered sexually explicit text messages on her daughter's phone, police said. A forensic analysis of the girl's phone by police revealed 322 text messages between the girl and Laidlaw. Many of the messages sent by Laidlaw were sexually explicit, police said. A protective order has been issued against Morgan Frawley, 25, of Fairfield, who police said had sexual relations with a 15-year-old boy. Frawley, a former New Canaan church youth group leader and former substitute teacher, was arrested on a charge of risk of injury to a minor Oct. 25 after turning herself in to New Canaan police.
Police have charged an English teacher at Fairfield Ludlowe High School with sexual assault after they say he engaged in a long-running relationship with a student. Glenn Mishuck, 49, of Ellsworth Street in Bridgeport, is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday at Superior Court in Bridgeport. He was charged with 17 counts of second-degree sexual assault. Mischuck is no longer a teacher at the school. School officials said he resigned his position Oct. 7. He was placed on paid administrative leave Sept. 18, when school officials learned of the allegations against him, a school spokeswoman said. Mishuck, who was known to students as "Mish," engaged in a sexual relationship with a student younger than 18 on at least 17 occasions, police said. Text messages between the student and Mishuck corroborated the incidents, police said. David Owens, Hartford Courant
