What to consider when choosing a nursing home in Connecticut

On Behalf of | Jun 1, 2018 | Firm News, Nursing Home Neglect, Personal Injury |

With all of the reports about nursing home abuse and neglect that our readers see, it can be intimidating when the time comes for them to actually make a choice for a loved one to stay at a nursing home or assisted living facility. But, in general, most of these facilities are doing their jobs the right way. However, that doesn’t mean that there aren’t certain things to look for when choosing an assisted living facility or nursing home. So, how should you go about making this choice with a loved one?

Well, a recent news article suggested a few steps when this choice enters your life. First, for starters, consider what type of care the individual who will become a resident of such a facility will need. Does your loved one need significant medical care? Or, is the loved one having memory problems? Or perhaps the loved one is becoming elderly and just needs a helping hand in some areas, but is otherwise aging well and still wants to be in a social community.

Next, consider the all-important issue of costs. How much are you and your loved one going to need to pay for the care that the facility will provide? As previous posts here have mentioned before, the costs of nursing home or assisted living facility care can be quite high.

Lastly, consider how your loved one will adapt to the facility and its capabilities as the loved one grows even older. Is this a place that will be able to take care of all of the loved one’s needs if health complications arise in the future? Does the facility have the right capabilities? These, among many other considerations, are important factors for Connecticut residents to take into account when choosing a nursing home. Making the right decision can help ensure that any possible instances of abuse or neglect are not part of the loved one’s life.
