When most people think about those who are injured by dangerous property conditions, they probably imagine that those conditions are present in an outdoor situation. However, dangerous property conditions can exist indoors as well, and Connecticut residents need to be on the lookout for these conditions in order to avoid a potential serious injury.
When entering an indoor location, such as a retail store or another person’s dwelling, be sure to look at the floor for potentially dangerous conditions. For example, in a shopping mall or grocery store, someone may have just mopped the area and forgot to put out a sign to warn customers of the floor being slippery. Or, at another person’s home, carpet may be frayed or pushed up, or boards on a deck may be rotting. Any one of these situations can lead to a serious injury.
Connecticut residents should be aware of the dangers present on stairways as well. There could be debris or items on the stairs that could trip a person up, going up or down the stairs. Or, a potentially dangerous condition may exist when there are no handrails on the stairway, when there should be.
Many people are more distracted than ever before by our environments and, particularly, cellphones. They may enter a potentially dangerous situation without noticing before it is too late. Not only is it important for Connecticut residents and others to be mindful of their surroundings, it is also important to know your legal options if an injury does occur.
