Bicyclists who are injured in car accidents can seek compensation

During the winter months we are less likely to see bicyclists on and near the roadways in Connecticut, but when the weather breaks they will be out and about as usual. Many more people seem to be engaging in bicycling as a form of exercise these days, and some are even using bicycles as their primary mode of transportation. Unfortunately, when bicyclists are near the roadways, car accidents can occur.

Some people may immediately lay the blame on the bicyclist when a collision between a car and a bicyclist occurs. This is simply unreasonable. As our readers know from previous posts here, distracted drivers are more prevalent on the roadways than ever before, presenting a danger to bicyclists, pedestrians and other drivers alike. And then there is the danger presented by drivers who just aren't paying attention, and, of course, drunk drivers.

When a vehicle strikes a bicyclist, the results can be devastating. A bicyclist has next to nothing in the form of protection - a helmet probably isn't much good in a collision with a motor vehicle. Bicyclists in these types of accidents can suffer broken bones, brain injuries and even death.

At our law firm, we understand the danger that exists when negligent drivers are on the roadways near bicyclists. When bicyclists are injured in a car accident, they may be able to pursue financial compensation from the driver of the automobile that struck them.
