Are the latest advances in car safety features worth the expense?

Not everyone gets the chance to own a new car but, for those who do, these days there can be a dizzying array of options to choose from. Advances in technology have brought all kinds of entertainment options into your car, gas mileage is improving and features like heated seats make it more comfortable to drive in the winter weather. But, what about safety features? Are the latest advances in these features worth the expense?

For the most part, the answer is "yes." For instance, one recent safety feature that is becoming quite common is a forward collision warning system. In short, the vehicle features proximity sensors on the front that alert drivers when they are getting too close to the vehicle in front of them. With distracted driving at an all-time high, this safety feature could prevent many car accidents.

And then there are vehicles that feature blind spot monitoring systems. Blind spots are those areas behind the driver - to the left and right sides of the vehicle - that are outside of regular peripheral vision. Monitoring systems have lights on the side mirrors of vehicles that light up when there is a vehicle in those blind spots. Again, this is a safety feature that is worth having.

Unfortunately, the advance of car safety feature technology is not preventing all car accidents yet. That kind of advance will likely take quite a few more years, if ever. For those who have been injured in a car accident in Connecticut, financial compensation may be available by pursuing a personal injury lawsuit.
