Car crosses centerline and strikes motorcycle in Connecticut

Most people know that in a collision involving a motorcycle and a passenger vehicle, the odds aren't in the motorcyclist's favor when it comes to injuries. A motorcycle's small size and lack of safety features such as seat belts and airbags means that should a motorcyclist be involved in an accident, they are vulnerable to injuries. Unfortunately, a recent motorcycle accident in Connecticut illustrated this concept all too well.

According to a recent report, the collision occurred on July 16 at about 7:15 p.m. All indications are that the motorcyclist didn't do anything wrong to cause the accident. However, the driver of the other vehicle, a Hyundai Sonata, reportedly crossed the centerline. The result was a serious collision that left the motorcyclist and the motorcyclist's passenger in critical condition in the immediate aftermath of the accident. Three people who were in the Hyundai Sonata also received medical attention.

This motorcycle accident remains under investigation. As of right now, there are no details as to what caused the driver of the Sonata to veer out of its designated lane. Further investigation may uncover the reason for the crash, such as distracted driving or driving under the influence, but there were no immediate indications that those elements were at play in this collision.

Car accidents like this happen all the time, unfortunately. And, when motorcycles are involved, there is a pretty good chance that the motorcyclist and any passengers will likely suffer serious injuries. When the collision is due to another driver's negligence, the injured parties may be able to seek compensation through a personal injury lawsuit in Connecticut civil courts.
