Fourth of July car accident statistics released

Most of our readers know that the Fourth of July holiday, no matter what day of the week it falls upon, is likely to lead to an increase in the number of intoxicated drivers on the roads. This, as a result, can lead to more car accidents. Now that the holiday has come and gone this year, the Connecticut State Police have released the statistics on the number of car-related incidents that occurred on the roadways this year.

According to a recent report, throughout their statewide enforcement on the Fourth of July holiday this year the state police issued almost 2,500 traffic citations. Of these 2,500 citations, almost 1,200 were for speeding. The good news is that this year's total amount of traffic citations was less than the number from 2016.

The state police were also called to the scene of 367 car accidents. Fortunately, unlike last year, there were no reported fatalities in the accidents that were investigated this year. Last year, 2016, saw three car accident fatalities on the Fourth of July holiday. But, in the 367 car accidents that the state police investigated this year, there were a reported 47 injuries.

While many drivers in Connecticut do their best to drive defensively and try to heighten their awareness of their surroundings during holiday times when drunk driving increases, these efforts aren't always successful in avoiding car accidents. For those who may have been injured in a car accident over the recent holiday, it may be possible to hold the responsible party liable in a personal injury lawsuit.
