Elderly man dies in Bridgeport hit and run; driver caught

Drivers in Connecticut must keep a close eye on everything when they are out on the road. Pedestrians, particularly children and the elderly, are more vulnerable than others. When there is a car crash involving a pedestrian, there can be severe injuries or a fatality. With any outcome, the long-term problems, along with it, can span the person’s entire life and extend to the family who must deal with the aftermath. A lawsuit is frequently the only method available to seek adequate compensation for everything lost in a pedestrian-auto accident.

An accident between a car and a pedestrian in Bridgeport turned into a hit and run when the driver fled the scene. In the crash, an 80-year-old man was killed as he crossed the street. He suffered severe trauma to his head, as well as to his cervical spine. He was taken to the hospital and later died.

A witness described the vehicle that hit the man and provided a license plate number. Law enforcement found the driver and engaged in a chase before she was apprehended. The 39-year-old woman was arrested for numerous charges, including operating under the influence, taking part in a police pursuit, driving without insurance and more.

With a pedestrian accident, the evidence is essential. This is especially true when there was a fatality. The aftereffects of a crash and death involving a pedestrian, run the gamut of funeral expenses, emotional trauma, the loss of companionship, lost wages and many other issues.

With a hit and run, the problem is compounded. If, as in this case, the driver was operating without insurance, it is paramount to have legal help to try to get adequate compensation for the family. Even if a settlement offer is made, these are often nowhere close to sufficient to cover everything the family has lost, but in their emotional state, they might take it before realizing it was not enough.

Considering the litany of issues in this case, the family of the elderly man who died must make certain to protect themselves from the accident investigation all the way through the possible car accident lawsuit. A lawyer is vital to provide that help.
