Ambulances and other emergency vehicles are expected to provide care to those who have been in an accident in Bridgeport and throughout Connecticut. They do their jobs professionally and competently, but many forget that the emergency personnel are people too; and, they too can be injured in a car crash. Similarly, these people have the right to seek compensation for medical expenses and other costs, after an accident.
At around 2:30 a.m., an ambulance swerved to avoid an auto accident and hit a parked car and tree. The investigation determined that the ambulance took evasive action to avoid hitting a vehicle that had gone through a red light. The driver of that vehicle subsequently fled the scene.
There were three staff members in the ambulance at the time. One staff member was removed by firefighters. One suffered a broken leg in the accident. The driver of the car that went through the signal, a teen, was located later. He was charged with driving without a license, going through a red light and evading responsibility.
Emergency personnel are aware of the amount of damage an auto accident can do since it is part of their job. Nevertheless, it is unlikely that they think this will happen to them, as they are out on the road in their emergency vehicle. However, it can and does happen.
Just like the people they care for when they are called to the scene of a crash, they can suffer injuries and death. There can be a long hospital stay, medical costs, aftercare, problems returning to work and more. This can place a financial, personal and emotional strain on the person and their family. Legal help is essential to get what is fair to compensate those who were hurt in a crash due to the liability of another.
In this accident, an ambulance crashed as its driver avoided a teen who ran a red light. All are expected to recover, but that does not mean they are automatically clear of any injuries from the crash. There could be issues that crop up later, and they might experience psychological problems as a result. A lawsuit can help them receive compensation for what happened, and this can be accomplished with help from an experienced attorney.
