Man killed in high-speed Bridgeport car accident

While some drivers in Bridgeport play fast and loose with speed limits, these laws do exist for a reason. There is abundant evidence that shows that traffic fatalities increase with the speeds of vehicles involved in accidents. While going slightly over the limit may not seem like a big deal, serious speeding violations can have devastating consequences.

The unfortunate effects of a speeding-related crash are being felt by a family in Connecticut due to a recent accident in Bridgeport. A man who was reported to be in his 20s was killed when his car collided with another vehicle. This second vehicle was allegedly being driven at a speed of around 100 mph when the accident occurred around 4:30 in the morning. The driver of that vehicle, a man reportedly in his 60s, was also injured in the crash, which happened along Main Street near St. Vincent's Medical Center. While authorities are still investigating the incident they indicated that they expect charges to be filed against the speeding driver.

Police will undoubtedly do their best to determine the exact cause of the accident in the above case, but when dealing with speeds as high as that alleged here, it seems likely that the excess speed was a factor. Driving 100 mph is dangerous in any situation, but especially so in an urban setting like Bridgeport. One's ability to make decisions and react to a changing environment is greatly reduced when traveling at such velocity.

In situations like this, the possibility of a civil negligence suit based on the car accident may exist. While every case is different and legal potential varies with specific circumstances, pursing damages for wrongful death may be one way to help ease the burden on loved ones dealing with such a painful loss.
