Connecticut drivers ranked among the worst in the U.S.

A recent report ranks the 200 largest cities in the country by vehicle accident frequency. Several cities in the northeast are among the worst, including two in Connecticut.

Bridgeport ranks 187th and New Haven ranks 189th out of the 200 cities included in the report. Bridgeport and New Haven have high population densities and receive significant amounts of rain and snow. Both of these factors contribute to the number of vehicle accidents, according to the report.

Of course, there are other reasons for car accidents, too. Regardless of the city you live in, accidents can be the result of:

  • Speeding and reckless driving
  • Drunk driving
  • Texting and distracted driving
  • Faulty auto parts
  • Truck drivers working over the hours limit
  • Defective roadways
  • Road construction
  • Collisions at train crossings
  • Failure to obey traffic signals
  • Failure to share the road with motorcycles, bicycles and pedestrians
  • Hit-and-run drivers

If you are injured in any type of vehicle accident, you can seek compensation from the negligent party. Compensation can cover losses such as medical bills, lost income and benefits, and pain and suffering. In many accident cases, however, people need the help of a lawyer to get adequate compensation.

Whether you were in a straightforward rear-end accident or a complex accident involving multiple liable parties, an attorney is your best advocate. Personal injury lawyers have experience with car accidents. They know how to work with insurance companies and how to help accident victims understand the medical and financial needs they will have going forward.
