Connecticut residents who routinely drive on Interstate 95 may have heard of the recent tragic three-vehicle accident that involved one car and two tractor trailers, which claimed the life of one individual and critically injured another.
According to authorities familiar with the tragic incident, the car accident occurred shortly after 5 o’clock in the morning. Preliminary accident investigation reports indicated that all three vehicles, one car and two tractor trailers, were traveling in the same direction and in the same right center lane near the exit where the accident occurred. There was construction activity in the area and, according to the report, the car came to a complete stop behind the first tractor trailer as a result of heavy traffic. At this point, the second tractor trailer rear-ended the car, pushing it into the back of the other tractor trailer.
Some witnesses to the accident reported that the impact of the collision caused the car to be pushed underneath the tractor trailer and emergency responders had to extract at least one individual from the car wreck. The 53-year-old driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident and the 41-year-old passenger in the vehicle had to be extricated from the wreckage and suffered serious injuries. The passenger reportedly was in critical condition. The tractor trailer drivers did not suffer any injuries.
The suddenness and unpredictability of car accidents and resulting harm that they cause can be shocking. The grief that the family of the victims is experiencing is unimaginable. Although it may be hard to cope with the loss of a loved one, many people feel that holding a negligent driver responsible offers some sense of justice. An injured party may be entitled to compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, funeral and burial costs and more. An experienced personal injury lawyer can provide helpful information.
