Do You Know Who is Coaching Your Child?

On Behalf of | Aug 9, 2012 | Coach Sexual Abuse, Firm News |

With the fall season of sports approaching, do you know who is coaching your children?  Coaches are given full access to children in a variety of situations.  The Jerry Sandusky case has created a heightened awareness; however, are you going to question your neighbor who is the elementary school soccer coach. The US Soccer Youth Soccer Association has the following on their blog in regards to coaches and background checks: “We believe all coaches involved in youth soccer should be subject to background checks and that coaching licenses be required as part of the risk management process.  We also believe that each coach should be issued a registration card, certifying that they have completed the risk management process and have attained the required coaching certification.”   The below story was recently reported in regards to a High School Soccer Coach. A former Chariho High School assistant soccer coach has been indicted by a federal grand jury on child pornography charges.

The U.S. Attorney’s office in Rhode Island said a three-count indictment was returned Wednesday charging Glen Matteson with receipt, possession and distribution of child pornography.
