Slip and fall premises liability in Connecticut

Many people in Connecticut and throughout the northeast look forward to the December holidays. Part and parcel of that time of year in this part of the country is snow and cold temperatures. This is often accompanied by ice and other conditions that can make even going out to the grocery store dangerous, especially for people at risk for falls, such as the elderly or disabled. At these times, it is important to remember that establishments expecting one's business also have responsibilities.

As we have previously mentioned, the owners of businesses have a duty to ensure that their premises are free of dangers that could cause injury to those that they expect to be entering their property for the benefit of either or both of them. One such possible danger is that of ice developing on or around the entrance to the establishment This kind of condition needs to be taken care of as soon as possible so that people traversing such an entrance are not put in danger.

Unfortunately, not all business owners in Connecticut are conscientious about these problems. Every year people slip and fall due to winter conditions that, while obvious, are not ameliorated. For example, this firm has represented a client who fell on ice that a proprietor knew about, but neglected to take measures against until after the client's injury.

While they may sound trivial, slip-and-falls can cause quite serious injuries. Whether due to ice, uneven pavement, or other conditions that an owner should know about and take action on, people hurt by falls on other's property should consider getting to understand their rights with regard to a premises liability suit.
