Former Greenwich Connecticut Priest Named in Victims' Group Petition

Bishop Frank Caggiano has agreed to meet with representatives of national and local victim support groups who Wednesday called for him to hire an outside firm to investigate two priests who have been accused in the past of sex abuse -- including a prominent former Greenwich pastor who has admitted he hid more than 40 years of abuse complaints. But Barbara Blaine, president of the Chicago-based Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests, said although she is willing to meet with Caggiano, she would prefer to do so after he agrees to the investigation. "History has shown that meetings don't always bear fruit, but actions speak louder than words," Blaine said.

Ex-Fairfield Fencing Coach, John Tejada, Sentenced to Jail for Sexually Assaulting Student

A former fencing coach at Fairfield's high schools has been sentenced to two years in prison after pleading guilty to sexually assaulting a female student at Fairfield Ludlowe High School last year. The parents of the victim broke into tears last Friday as they described to Judge Robert Devlin at Bridgeport Superior Court how their now-18-year-old daughter has changed as a result of actions by John Tejada. "I sent him a confident, happy child and he sent us back a broken child, and we may never put the pieces back together," said the girl's father, wiping away tears.

Greenwich Connecticut Catholic School Teacher Charged With Sexual Assault of Student

A Danbury man who has taught at a private Catholic girls' school in Greenwich for the past 17 years has been charged with sexual assaulting a minor, police said. Michael Maida, 44, surrendered to police on Tuesday. He is charged with second-degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a minor, according to police. The charges stem from an investigation into alleged contact between Maida and a student who was under the age of 16 at the time, police said. Maida teaches at Convent of the Sacred Heart day school in Greenwich. According to a statement from the school, the alleged incident took place in the fall of 2009 and the alleged victim is no longer a student.

Former Penn State quarterback and Assistant Coach Mike McQueary was Sexually Abused: Report

Mike McQueary, the former Penn State quarterback and Nittany Lions assistant football coach who was a key prosecution witness in Jerry Sandusky's criminal trial, confided to players that he was a victim of sexual abuse, according to a new ESPN The Magazine report. According to the report, it was during a meeting with PSU football receivers and tight ends on Nov. 7, 2011 -- three days after prosecutors released a damning grand jury presentment outlining Sandusky's sexual abuse of eight boys over a 15-year period -- that the then-Nittany Lions receivers coach, McQueary, told the players that he too had been sexually abused when he was a boy. The report cites two players who were present at the meeting.
