Cyclist Awarded $221,146 in Crash Lawsuit

Daniel Tepfer, Connecticut Post (Bridgeport, CT)
BRIDGEPORT – A Superior Court jury Wednesday awarded more than $200,000 to a city hairdresser injured four years ago when a car hit him as he was riding his bicycle in Fairfield.

The six-person jury deliberated about two hours before awarding 51-year-old Alec Hanna $221,146.71.

“We were able to persuade the jury that these impairments represented significant disabilities for a man who spends his life on his feet, working with his hands,” said Hanna’s lawyer, Robert R. Sheldon of Tremont Sheldon P.C..

According to Attorney Sheldon, Hanna was riding his 10-speed bicycle southbound on Black Rock Turnpike in Fairfield. As he approached Bennington Drive, a BMW driven by Jane Savio, formerly of Fairfield, turned left into Hanna’s path, crashing into the bicycle.

Attorney Sheldon said the impact knocked Hanna off his bicycle. He struck his head on the car’s windshield and landed face down in the roadway unconscious.
