Tremont Sheldon Robinson Mahoney Proud to Support Habitat for Humanity

May 23, 2011

Tremont Sheldon Robinson Mahoney was one of the lead sponsors for the Connecticut Trial Lawyer Association's Bake Sale Event that benefited Habitat for Humanity. Tremont Sheldon Robinson Mahoney's own Douglas Mahoney was a "celebrity baker" showcasing his culinary talent for the bake sale silent auction. The event was held on Thursday, May 12th.

In addition to the bake sale event, the Connecticut Trial Lawyer Association membership is also volunteering to help build houses at their local Habitat Chapters.

Habitat in Connecticut

Habitat for Humanity local affiliates are nonprofit organizations dedicated to the elimination of poverty housing through the creation of homeownership opportunities for low-income working families. The local Habitat affiliates build and rehabilitate homes in their geographic area with the goal of creating safe, decent, affordable houses that add to the revitalization of neighborhoods. Families that apply for homes complete a qualification process in which they demonstrate family and fiscal responsibility, and also contribute their own volunteer hours, "sweat equity." There are seven affiliates located across the state: Bridgeport, Danbury, Hartford, Middlesex County, New Haven, New London, and Waterbury. While many people assume that Habitat for Humanity (the national organization) provides funding for the local affiliates, this is not the case. Not only are the local affiliates responsible for raising funds for their own operating expenses, but they are also responsible for contributing a portion of what they raise to the national organization.
